i am thinking of upgrading, but not sure if its worth the expense

It's not necessary, but it's loads better. Kinda personal choice whther the better performance is worth the extra money, but I happen to think it is. I have the SuperHD 4foot open scanner

As you may know I'm a Furuno man and the 3D is fab kit.

I agree not worth upgrade but huge steps in performance and displays with Raster/Vector options etc etc on the plotter and wonderful radar performance.
