The Ship Inn at Fosdyke opened his doors tonight, serves a rather tasty pint and menu looks just about right for the area. Good and simple food at decent Lincolnshire prices, might well be worth organising a get together there now
Beer is well tasty /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif hic /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Could be hard work getting past this one /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Bloke's invested his own dosh in the place so does deserve supporting, that's my excuse anyway /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Not many beers on yet and he's going to do the hours, beers and food that his regulars want, so now's the time to get in there and make sure he's open when we want, does the beer we want, and the food we want too. Couldn't be better, seemples /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

He thinks the Deben tide is fast so I don't think he would like the Wash rivers at all /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

haha. What could possibly go wrong!

If the water was clean you could do your washing in it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
If you do a search for any of the Wash tidal rivers you'll find they suggest anchoring is best done out in open waters, didn't know why myself until I saw it with my own eyes /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
It rips /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just seen the thread mentioning the Deben tides.

You can double that in The Wash rivers /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif , I've seen 2.5 while anchored out in the Clay hole! For the uninitiated, that's about 2 miles out from the end of the river......

Wainfleet BBQ on Sat Dave.......

what are the acess times up to the welland dave? is it HW +-3hours? you could end up locked in at Fosdyke and only the pub to visit, what an ordeal. You will have them all coming up from the sarf east for that one.

Aim to arrive at Fosdyke at high water or at the most, one hour either side. I've seen experienced skippers come up river too early and drop anchor about half a mile before the marina rather than arrive too soon, and after arriving too early myself I'll be doing just that in future. The bar is best crossed at HW+/-3 but the hardest part is dealing with the current in the river itself, possibly due to the river being so narrow that the tidal flow is forced along at one hell of a rate. Best have a good look over a few days to see what I mean, but if you thought Wells was a strong flow, you aint seen nothing yet /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Joe's down there at the moment, taking advantage of the cheap lift out and doing some work on his mobo so I'll try and video the flow next time I go to see him, and not surprisingly he's now tested the bar and found it to be good /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

ill test it out soon enough /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif,my new rig should be arriving next week and with the new suite of sails im intending to do a fair bit of mud skipping in the wash.I would imagine that the tidal flows are similar down at the Nene, having a 50 on the transome could be usefull.

does he do decent cola at this new pub? or is it just for drunkards like you and jkay /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The 50 should manage it well enough providing you can turn quick enough to avoid going under the bridge and losing the mast, and yep, current is probably about the same, though I think The Welland is narrower than The Nene so I may be wrong. Well worth taking a look on Sunday/Monday according to Belfield, mid afternoon looks like it's going to be, ahem, interesting.
Pub does indeed do cola, and excellent coffee/tea if that takes your fancy. Anyone would think me and Joe were boozy types /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Brilliant pub and a great night /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
still suffering the after effects /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
The marina there is brilliant as well

Great night out had here too Joe, no hangover but you still got the blame for the slurred speach /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Must organise a get together for Wash Waders there, as there seems to be more of us than I knew of /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Up for it ?
How about young Tommytoerot ? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Anyone else ?
Wash includes Wells in case anyone doubted it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You might prefer to tip-toe Ken /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
That's two of us anyway, too many and it could be a riot /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thought you might toe the line too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Have a word with Hans and see if he fancies it too, if a few more are interested I'll have a word and see what we can do about the menu. Best give him plenty of notice that he might need a barmaid that night /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
