More than a few of us have posted the need to have a boaty component replicated or made up in, usually, stainless steel or other boaty metal. I know I have, and I was pointed by one of our number to Lasermaster way down in Redruth, in darkest Cornwall.

It's a 'thing' with me to flag up excellent service from somewhere ( I'm trying to counterbalance decades of being a grumpy futtock! ) and I can certainly attest to the swift, attentive and wholly satisfactory service they provided when I sought to replace my suspect old rigging plates - 'invent a better mousetrap' - and needed to lie down when I found out what Blue Wave Backstay Plates would cost from prominent chandleries.

The economic answer? Bespoke, by Lasermaster, beautifully crafted and finished - and at less than half the cost.

I can also highly recommend them and have used them several times and prices very well.

Here they made up a replacement saddle for my forestay from thicker stock.

This year they made up some railing for me simply because I could not bend the 25mm tube. The local marine fabricators quote was £180, they were £70. I could barely buy the material for that price.

I think I may be the one who pointed you at Lasermaster - been using them for many years and the service and quality is the best, and we have tried many different places claiming to be able to offer laser cutting and bending services and had plenty of issues with others - could name one who wrecked two out of three orders and whose quality was somewhat "suboptimal" to say the least

Their Easy Order system - Metal Profiling Online | Custom Cut Washers & Discs Here! - is getting better and better

No connection other than as a long term regular customer of theirs

An 'old school' fabricator in the Fareham area is Stainless Marine Fabrications along Fontley Road,Titchfield. I've had several jobs done and never had any cause for complaint. It's sometimes good to talk and pay cash for an excellent job.

There are a number of online laser profile and fabrication companies springing up, I’ve use a couple so far and very pleased and quick turn around, some need a cad file but some will manufacture from decent sketch. Cost for laser cutting have plummeted as it becomes more the norm

If this is Dave, a friend of mine went to see him recently and found that he is no longer there. Hopefully he is enjoying a well deserved retirement.

We have tried quite a few over the years, the biggest issues are companies claiming to be able to cut materials when they clearly dont have the laser power to do so, and then supplying items that look like the apprentice attacked them with a gas axe, companies supplying parts that have clearly been plasma cut (badly) not laser cut, and companies just being a front and having everything done abroad, which works OK sometimes and is a disaster most of the time

We use Lasermaster for all custom laser cutting and CustomParts.uk for standard laser pre-cut parts

Impressed with Lasermaster so far. Needed a couple of little brackets making and quote is less than I could buy material for.
