Has anyone done it this year? I was wondering whether old maxim of “depth at Southend in metres approximates to depth across the Broomway in feet” still applies. It’s been some years since we crossed, IIRC last time at least one of the posts was missing as where most of the withies. Considering doing it on Monday pm (coming from the Swale) when HW Southend is nominally 5.5m.

Dug back through my log: in 2016 we had 1.1m crossing the Broomway and 0.9m approaching the only remaining withy at which time PLA were reporting 5m at Southend. We were 1.5hrs before HW Southend which was forecast to be 6.2m so we had plenty in hand if we had been a bit later. Tomorrow’s forecast HW Southend is 5.5m so in theory, and without any significant negative surge on the day, we would be OK at close to HW - but with the tides going off from now onwards I’m inclined not to risk it.
