What is the best route over the sand from Havengore bridge to the deep water channel?

Thinking of going out that way at the end of the month following a visit to the upper reaches of the Crouch.

Also which is the correct route round Rushley Island on the way to Havengore?

I expect to do this on 5m (Southend) tide.

We had the Roach Sailing Club info when we did it earlier this year, but we were also given clear and helpful directions on the VHF by the very helpful (South-African?) lady bridge operator as we went through.

She also warned us not to stray to the east, as firing was very audibly continuing there at the time! As we headed down the creek towards the Thames we were having difficulty identifying which of the numerous visible posts she had been directing us to, and were erring to the west (as you would in the circumstances!). She noticed the error of our ways, and called us up to put us back on the right track.

A few hundred yards later it all became much more obvious as we could now see the difference in the sizes of the posts, and the lateral positions of them all opened up. There is a clear line of stout posts leading across the sands towards the deep water of the Thames.

I vaguely recall that the Roach Sailing Club info, or some other guidance we had aboard, indicated that the deepest water across the sands had moved from the east to the west side of these posts (or possibly vice versa?), but there didn't seem much in it, and I don't have the info to hand at the moment.

Enjoy!:)

He only draws 12 inches!

Fair enough but ECP 2nd Ed (3rd Ed is on board) says 0.5m approx at HW Neaps; 5.0m at Southend is 0.54m above the lowest neap value for Southend this year which suggests the best to be expected is 1.05m at the top of the tide (assuming ECP is referring to the lowest neap and not MLWN - which I doubt). Only a crude guesstimate I know. It's quite a long way across an indistinct route! I think its a worthy comment.

It's hard to be precise as there are all sorts of lumps and bumps. Last time I did it, was on a pretty big spring, and the least depth I saw (probably at the Broomway) was about 1.5m although that was about 30mins before HW and it was still rushing in.
ECP 3rd edition has a chartlet showing routes and a couple of waypoints, drawn after my last trip in company with the nice folk from the RSA.

We'll be in on board in BYH bank holiday weekend and the weekends either side if you want to catch up:-)
