Hoping to take advantage of the big Spring tides this weekend, and slink inbound through the Havengore Bridge on Friday afternoon (or, Plan B, Saturday afternoon), coming out again on Sunday afternoon. Anyone else thinking along similar lines?

I'd guess so as well altho it's my first time so I don't speak from experience. When I spoke to the bridge-keeper today he muttered about '1.9m' on Sunday but I don't know where 1.9m refers to - across the Broomway, perhaps. As I draw less than 1.2m I didn't worry!
I shall take notice and report back.

Cantata I am planning to try Havengore this weekend. Plan is to leave Holehaven on the last of the ebb, on Saturday morning, anchor west of the artificial island in the gully, then head off two hours before HW. I have had some info from the Roach Sailing Association.

In view of the present and forecast wind we have decided to postpone 24hrs, so we might well go through with you on Saturday. B****y weather. Can't contemplate crossing those sands with SW 6 mentioned though, that would not seem sensible. If all's well, we'll come looking for you near the island, then.

Great I shall look out for you. Thalia has a dark blue hull and bowsprit.

And yes if the SW6 continues I shan't be trying to cross the sands either.

Is that the Thalia from Swale Marina? My middle daughter is called Thalia and she got such a kick out of seeing the name on your boat!

We were planning a trip from Bradwell Marina Saturday 19th September (anchor in Yokefleet Creek) and out of Havengore at HW Sunday 20th about 2pm.
However I have now realised;

a) it's my wife's birthday on the 19th
b) it's also Maldon Regatta on the 19th.

So because of b) we'll have to find another weekend.

Hi Ian I'm planning to sail back to Costa del Canvey from Bradwell early September, via Havingore and possibly stay a night over at Queenborough before getting the next tide into the Ray.

I'm on my other boat (upper Thames) until the Bank Holiday, but then on Sea Moon. When were you thinking of going?

Saturday 5th September HW Southend-On-Sea 13.53 5.6, which should give a clearance of 1.8 over the Broomway. I'm going to try and contact the bridge today to check if there has been any changes on datum!

Well, we (that's us and LeonF) did the Havengore on Saturday. Good fun as long as you are of a calm disposition (like us) and are not spooked by seeing nought-point-something on your echo-sounder (which, naturally, being East Coasters, we are not).
Thanks to the Roach SA for coming out to meet us, very kind.

Havengore the aftermath.....

Yes, as Cantata says, we managed the Havengore with great ease last Saturday. What was interesting was that using the info from the Roach Sailing Association it all seemed so easy, despite their info being totally different to that in the almanac and pilot guide I consulted. I recommend anchoring to the west of the artificial island. Get there at LW and the channel is easy to see. I went far around the bend till I went aground, then threw the hook out and waited. Plenty of fish for those with an angling inclination. I just watched the family of seals playing. With a good set of bins, the two black balls marking the wreck is easily visible. This is the first mark to aim for, some two hours before HW, then follow the beacons around. The first to starboard is a bit of a dog leg, but it then becomes clear as the others all lead in from seaward, the last two mark the Broomway. Then it's withies all the way. The RSA recommend East Coast Rivers. I was a bit early, almost an hour before HW, but had 0.9 over the Broomway, but it was an exceptionally high tide and benign conditions. Go on try it.. it was great fun and quite easy. I can't wait to have another go next year. And yes Thalia was in Swale Marina, but sadly only in there for repair at their excellent workshops, after being hit by a Thames Fuel Barge while on her river mooring.

Ooooh!! Leon!!! I thought we were friends....
It was indeed kind of the RSA to help. There's history there as dear old Jack Coote was the commodore (or chairman?).
The strange thing about the actual directions is that they don't seem to be written down clearly anywhere, even in the best selling east coast book, although perhaps that's because we didn't get a good run at it, nor any useful pics, last time the notes were compiled.
However we now have a myriad of scribblings, photos and lat/longs for next time.
Of course, we followed this precise course, which got us there OK, but I saw several other (presumably local) boats scutlling in all directions over the sands, so who knows what's best.....
One thing's for sure...forget it unless you have a shoal draught boat. Mind you, the MoD seem to run a monster ex-trawler as a range safety boat, which I saw from the Swin on the way home, well inshore over the sands at only half flood!!
