Thanks to all the advice obtainED here, MoodySabre and I had a very successful trip today. After being looked after at Queenborough by XYachtDave and his lovely family, we departed Queenborough at 0645. Crossed the estuary in freezing cold, windless but sunny conditions and then headed up across the sands to Havengore. We timed it perfectly, getting there at HW-1. The friendly and helpful bridge operator told us where the best water was and we slipped through with about a meter beneath us. It was glorious drifting through the Narrow Cut and Middlway. Magical. Can't wait to do it again. Thanks Roger and Dave and everyone who stumped up good info.

Now safely at Fambridge. BRING ON THE SUMMER!!!

Great stuff. Was thinking of you this morning when I looked out the window at 0630. I made a cup of tea and went back to bed because of the frost.

When I looked out the window at 6.30am, there was pretty thick mist around and pretty chilly. I went back to bed too....

Certainly was cold - spent Sat night on a Sadler 25 at Island Yacht Club Canvey before motoring & some sailing to Walton on Sunday, then today up to Orford.

Entrance to Walton Channel - Very little water around Stone Point. Left about 0630 this morning, lift keel right up so drawing about 90cm and grounded (gently) for a couple of minutes in the shallowest part suggesting least depth of about 0.2m below CD - water flowing in between 3 and 4 knots.

Entrance to Ore was 'interesting' - arrived about HW Haven buoy but with ENE 3-4 the sea wasn't very nice. Bit scary to go charging towards the beach with no buoys for visual reference, breaking water either side and relying on the GPS to indicate where the buoys were last year then sharp right turn to parallel the beach hitting 8 knots in relatively calm water. Wouldn't have wanted any more wind to try it, but didn't see less than 4m on last years track in on a 3.1m local HW.

It certainly was cold today. Fiddled with the aircon and got it sorted before heading off to fab dinner in shorts (in Malta ). Glad the trip went well!
