Haven Ports Yacht Club - worth it?

I've never been to any of the other Orwell clubs, maybe they are more visitor-book-focussed than the others I've been to, none of which I've even seen a visitors book in! I find it a charming concept and I look forward to being asked to sign in, I'm inclined to sign it as Amanda Hugankis or in light of the consternation in the thread I think I'll stick to an old fave, Noah Fense.

You may be asked to show your club membership card or RYA card, otherwise sign as Joe Public

Had you done so I might have noticed, but I just realised read your post of 1923 yesterday and the only clues I found as to which club you were referring to were "there" and a reference to visiting the chandlery, which covers many yacht clubs, including HPYC.

I will donate £5 to the RNLI for every time I'm asked to sign in and £10 for each time I'm asked for a membership card - but not including FMYC as I fear SM will be stalking the place waiting to pounce Sadly that will mean nothing goes to the RNLI so I'll press on with the jazz band fundraiser I'm doing later this year.

Members fund your visits to any club, the least you might do is join the RYA to whom all affiliated clubs contribute

So that'll be a fiver every time you go into a yacht club then, as they pretty much all have signs up asking you to sign.

If someone came round and pestered you into signing every time you went into a club you moan about them. But as the clubs are pretty relaxed and don't hassle visitors, you don't bother to sign in.

It's been pointed out that you are expected to sign in and failing to do so could cause problems for clubs, due to licensing conditions, yet your attitude is still "i'll carry on as i've always done". Rather than the "oh bugger, i hadn't realised, i'll make sure i do it in future".

Bit like flapping halyards.

As I wrote in the deleted post above, before an attempt to edit it caused a delete, there are 3 good reasons to sign in as a visitor at a yacht club, or any other sort of club:

No, what makes the internet special is being able to remain under the misguided belief that you are correct until such point that you are clearly found to be wrong, although stubbornly refusing to admit it graciously, only to dig oneself in an ever larger hole with perceived anonymity.
I don't think it at all unreasonable for any members club willing to accept visitors, to expect them to sign in as a matter of common courtesy. To think otherwise is remarkably self grandious.

Potentially this could be an issue, particularly if any paperwork needs signing....

Blue is so yesterday, White one`s look so much nicer, as are the folk who fly them
