I know at this time of year insurance related threads are commonplace but here is another. My policy is up for renewal and N Union are over the top on price. It would appear that both Pantaeneus and Haven Knox-Johnston are substantially cheaper. I know all about the former but have no experience of HKJ. Any comments please.

I'm new in this forum and i'm glad that everybody helps a little. I need help, do you know a good supplier or manufacturer of water or fuel tanks and accessories for boats, such as winch handle pockets, cleat covers or rigging screw covers?
Thnx in advance

Cristian,

Welcome.

A tip. If you want info on tanks, pockets etc, start a new thread with that as the subject, otherwise you'll get lost in a welter of comments about favourite insurance companies.

Apropos HKJ, I was once racing a boat where we shredded a spinny, drying it on the mooring. Insurers were HKJ and they paid up without a quibble. CAVEAT, that was years ago, and things might have changed.

Cristian,

Welcome to te forum. I see you had tried to start a post on another thread also. Go to the index page and click on 'POST' then start a new thread. As you have already been advised, PBO is the best forum for this. Go to the bottom of this page, on th eringht hand side is a list of the forums, click on that and roll the list, next one up is PBO.

Good luck, you'll soon get the hang of it!

I'd add my vote to TKs remarks.

I have my fishing boat insured with HKJ, at a premium that was about 2/3 my previous insurers. Last summer the boat was broken into with fishing tackle and electronics nicked and damage to control lines to engines. In all aspects of the claim HKJ were professional and courteous and paid the claim in full.

My yot is insured through Pantaenius and we have had similar service from them as well.

In short, a good pair of companies to do business with.

Welcome to the forums. Your question would be better directed to the PBO forum on its own thread rather than here where the discussion is about insurance

Cheers
Tom

I'm with HKJ - competitive premium and no quibbles about a claim for theft whilst on a swinging mooring. Zodiac inflateable, Suzuki OB, Authelm contoller, spinnaker blocks... came to £3k all in.

I would recommend them.

Cheers

Hi Doris,

I've just completed the annual insurance negotiations and it can be very worth while speaking or emailing companies you wish to insure you.

In 12 years I have been with H K-J, GJW and Navigators & General. All have provided a reasonable service and all will negotiate - to an extent. I go with whoever is the cheapest for the best cover at that time - I have no allegiance. This year I'm paying £125 pa less than 2 years ago - for exactly the same cover. It may take several phone calls, and you may have to fill in another proposal form if you change companies - but my insurance has been going down every year when historically it always went up.

More and more people are challenging costs - both in business and in leisure - companies expect it tho they may not like it, and apart from the extra funds (for white diesel - don't ask), there is a certain satisfaction gained from acheiving a lower premium.

Try a couple of the companies above and see how you get on.

Hope this helps

Dave D

I am with HKJ easy to talk to quick on decisions, competative prepared to cover extended cruising area with only small increase in excess, covered short handed offshore racing with minimum of complications. I have not made a claim but have had no problems in dealing with them.

Re HKJ, PM sent to doris .

Hi Doris, I've been with Nav&Gen for years. When I told them of a cheaper quote they matched it. How is the new boat? See you around next season perhaps. Tom

Ta for that David.
Off I went to try GJW and Navigators but they don't like the idea of 2handed racing so it looks like it's between Pantaeneus, HKJ and Norwich Union.

I was with HKJ for 15 years, they were very good when my boat broke free of it's mooring and got damaged.
When I changed boats I got a quote from them but it was expensive compared to the online quote from craftinsure. Only a claim will tell if they are equally good, lets hope I never have to test them.
