Have you been into Yarmouth Harbour in the last two weeks?

I got pinned against a boat in strong currents up the hamble once, leaving a small black mark on their hull. So I took photos quickly on my iphone, and left my details with the marina office.
Weeks later I was sent a bill for a Gel coat repair, I was upset that the owner hadnt bothered speaking to me first, but the mark I had left would have washed or at most t cut'd out, so I had another look at the photos, there was gel coat damage visible, in the area of his anchor, a couple of feet higher than my boat could possibly reach.

I pointed this out and all was sorted, he hadnt even seen the little black mark I had left.

So I guess its important to photograph any damage, as well as leaving contact information.

Has anyone tried those flat fenders? do they stop that tangling of fenders that happens when both boats are fendered up?

How will it be repaired will they have to paint your hull?

Good point.
Most of the quality dark-hulled yachts have the colour contained in the gelcoat, so a localised repair is possible (but requires skilled colour matching.)

But many others have had the colour painted on to a white gelcoat. Two problems are firstly that minor scratches show up much more, and secondly local resprays are not normally possible, so the whole hull section needs to be done.

Fortunately, all Rustlers have the pigment in the gel, and they retain small quantities for the boats the build so it will be identical. We have repaired small damage before and it is as good as new, completely invisible.

At the end of the day it is a not very deep scratch. More annoyance than anything else.

If you can answer yes to the above 3 questions, then you are the miserable s**t who has gouged a 4 foot long deep scratch in my hull and not bothered to leave a note.

Pleased to hear your good news, but maybe a public apology on the forum is called for.

After all the 'miserable s**t' had done the correct and decent thing and you had jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Fair point, but I think many of us would have reacted similarly. Pride of ownership is a strong emotion, first reactions are not always the most correct. But in the end fair play has won out and we can all relax.........

DougH,

I think SolentBoy got it right; it's not his fault the office didn't give the info', he did ask them.

He hasn't named the culprit either; no apology required, and the thread may be a message to others that inconsiderate damage will hopefully bring consequences.
