long and a bit mseey to explain but the upshot is that new rigging for a 35 footer (8mm wire, 10 wires in total) has come to £820 plus vat plus delivery. bad price? Complete rip off? Or reasonable?

Had a quote for ours, £1600, (Moody 31). Just as I picked myself up off the floor he slipped in plus VAT /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Exit stage right one customer

We had our Sadler 32 done on the Hamble for around £900 +VAT (IIRC) for all the standing rigging and set up afterwards from Performance Rigging

Great service, and quick turnaround

That included all of the permanent standing rigging, 4 trips to the boat (1 to mark, 1 to collect, 1 to fit and 1 to set up) Mast lifted on Monday
and went back up on Friday.

It didn't include the mast lift though

Sounds reasonable. What kind of terminals as this can make a substantial difference in price. Whatever you buy, make sure you see the test certificates for the wire. At least that is what my rigger always says and does.

As an ex raggie, (I've gone over to diesel power), definitely reasonable. I would pay this without quibble!

i pay £800 for engine service plus £600 leg service each year!
I expect your service will last 12 to 15 years!
Hope this settles your mind.

To find out if the quote is good value you have to test the market. Get at least two other quotes even if it eventually means moving the boat to a different port to get the work done.

What other people paid a year or more ago is irrelevant, times have changed.

Not bad quote at all, I presume that is supply only?

Yes - the boat is out of the water with mast down anyway.

Thanks everyone - got myself into a situation where I thought I was being taken advantage of (ooo-er! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif ) but it seems I'm not. Entirely my own fault, and I should know a lot better.

I think you are really trying to show off what a good deal you've got, unless there is a sting in the tail some where that looks good to me.

mix of 6 and 8mm stainless, 9 wires, some talurit, some fixed eyes, none over 9m cost me circa £800 mail order, so sounds like you got a reasonable deal.

Of course I shoulda made my own in galvanised...

Prices vary enormously. I need a new set of 3mm rigging for a wee Hunter. I have been quoted wire at 95p/metre (rigger), £1.05/metre (sailmaker) and £3/metre (local chandler), and Talurit eyes at £5, £7.50, £5 (same three places, same order).
