I'm looking at haulage for a 25' long keeler from Plymouth to Essex. Mark Davis of West Country Boat Transport (recommended several times in this forum) has given me a very reasonable quote, but our local yard charges £15/m + VAT for craning off a low-loader and I'm guessing that the charge for craning on at the other end will be similar so this adds a whopping £280 to the total /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. Does anyone know of any haulage firms which use a lorry/loader with built-in crane? Plymstock Marine Services advertise as such on their website but when I 'phoned they said "we don't do yacht haulage any more".

Give Aardvark at Exeter a call on 0845 6324758 (mob 07811 122152) They are boat transport specialists. I think they have a truck mounted crane but not sure what capacity. If they can't do the job, they'll know a man who will.
Their website is www.boattransportation.biz

Saving a few pounds may cost you a lot more if you do not lift the boat correctly.
Unless you lift with a proper lifting cradle with a truck mounted crane you will seriously damage your boat and not know it, I have seen what happens believe me.
With a truck mounted crane the strain on the hull with the straps coming back to a central hook runs a big risk of cracking the hull.
Check carefully what is being offered!

Mike, Have you tried B'sea Wharf, prior to starting build, used them each year for lifting in & out, along with three others, worked out at £50. 00 a lift (mast as well)...33' about 9tons. Might be worth a call!. Had got really P#ssed of with Gary Cowell wanting £200 a lift and £30 for the mast. HTH
