Hi - the hatch garage lid was rotten on my Twister... largely due to a previous bodger having used cheap screws to fix it down...

I have removed the old lid and replaced the curved cross beam support.

Rather than use screws I am planning to weigh and epoxy two layers of bendy 3mm ply down. Thus hoping not to use screws at all.

The only issue is that I can't find 3mm marine ply anywhere except Robbins Timber in Bristol who want to charge £50 to deliver £50 worth of ply...

Anyone know anywhere in London or East Coast where I can get 3mm marine ply? Internet says no...

Thanks!

South London hardwoods has 4mm marine ply

Why do you need to use two layers of 3mm when one layer of 6mm would do.

When you say you don't want to use screws would you object to using screws to hold the ply in place until the epoxy sets, then removing them and plugging the holes with dowels?

I did a lot of that on my Composite Twister.

Agree 6mm will take that bend OK and hold down with screws which you can remove drill out and plug with either dowels or cut some 10mm hardwood plugs with a plug cutter. That is how I built a hatch garage for my Eventide. Still there after 30 years or so.

The laminate you are proposing will be stronger than 6mm forced to curve. Why not improve the job by sheathing inside and out with mat and resin, then any exterior ply will do the job perfectly well. Buildbase 4mm exterior hardwood ply is very good. RGB's is rubbish!
