No, not Lewmar, Goiot or similar.

On my 40 y.o. 'project' is a GRP lazarette hatch cover, broadly rectangular and dished, which has never been clipped down. Bits of internal cordage seem to have been used. I want something much more seaworthy.

The hatch 'sidewalls' are about 2cm. There's plenty of adjacent side-deck. Hinges do not seem appropriate due to lack of fore/aft clearances.

Suggestions, please, for a solution.

Of course a bit of line to a strong eye under cockpit hatches leading to a strong cleat in the cabin - clamcleat, anything one fancies - is very handy, not just if cowering but essential in big waves where the locker tops may be swept away, potentially swamping the boat - Goodnight Vienna.

If alongside a boat in a visitors' spot it would look rude to go around snapping on padlocks, but tightening the locker top pull downs all secure from below is discreet and as said essential in a storm.

I use 4mm lines to s/s eyes under the cockpit lockers ( large or penny washers on top ) .

Then the locker tops are pulled tight down on rubber seals, actually car door seals - with the line leading through a grommet to a Clamcleat beside each saloon bunk, all discreetly without offending neighbours, and secure in heavy weather.

Our lazarette only ever contains the fenders, and the lid is heavy with a good overlap all round, so we rely on gravity. I figure that if we go far enough over for the fenders to escape, that will be the least of our worries.
