Wife and daughter have been watching a programme about David Hasslehof (of Baywatch and Knight Rider fame - apparently) on a trip to the UK. They were on a narrow boat around Henley. Complete mayhem as they head into Hambledon lock, sideways, but they seemed to be delighted at the scenery and friendliness of the people on and around the river.

Their ineptitude was pretty alarming. It looked pretty quiet so probably was a weekday which was just as well. It was all good fun until entering Marsh one of their crew tried to fend off with a pole resulting in a crunch and scream from one of Hasselhof's children. It seems the pole caught her thumb and she needed hospital treatment.

Sounds like he got a bit further than some Hollywood stars, Harrison Ford hired a Narrowboat on the Llangothlan(?) Canal spent one night on board then gave up and went to a 5-star hotel.

To be fair the young lady had retreated to a 'safe' distance inside the boat. The chap on the front probably had no idea that trying to stop a boat weighing several tonnes with a wooden pole was going to lead to trouble. He tried fending off but his big mistake was getting the pole horizontal with one end close to the front bulkhead and the other approaching the dock wall.

The load came on, the back of the pole slammed into the front doors and they appear to have flown open then slammed shut. Young womans fingers in the vicinity.

Sure they were inept but at least they were out there trying it! Remember someone hired them the boat! We all started somewhere!
