Again this Marina have excelled themselves with their customer care!!!!!

Went down to spend the weekend on the boat at Haslar

No electric on our pontoon?

JC, (Haslar staff), like a knight in shinning Armour, already had this all in good hands.......Ran a lead for us so as to keep SWMBO warm and happy!! (Must add this bit, she was more than happy to share Duvet and sleeping bag, she ain't scared of a bit of rough!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

We do have heater's on board, but being connected to shore supply is easier.

Anyway, Sat night, had 65.4 knts over the deck on the end of 'D' pontoon and 45.9 on 'A' pontoon!!!

Haslar Marina...............after being in the Solent since 1985 I believe them to be the best.

Well done John, you're a star, thats from Tina,...............me? I owe you a pint when Landers re-open's.

Re: Haslar, good indeed

Nothing is too much trouble and you get none of that MDL crap "sorry sir if only I could, but Health & Safety".

In two years they have helped me out of my berth while single handing more than once, lent me a spare fuel funnel, given me a spare tub of sun screen at 7:30am on a scorching day before the shops were open and when my anchor got stuck in Customs they were happy to look in their deliveries store day after day.

It is the positive way they deal with requests that really counts.

Only gripe is I lost out on my free renewal bottle of champagne cause I failed to collect by the end of October.

Hic! Sozzy, wonder where dat went,, hic!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Only joking!!!!!!!

I was less than pleased when I paid a visit to Haslar a year or two ago.

They deliberately have non standard electrical sockets at the visitors' pontoons, so we couldn't hook up until the bod came round to collect money. He then 'hired' me a special adaptor for the socket. I really didn't need that after an overnight cross Channel.

You just need to ask at the office for the vistors plug, they have plenty available usually. Much better setup than the big transformer thing you need to get at places like Berthon's etc.

Inconvenient I admit, but a trip to the office would have found you a coupling, for a twenty odd pound refundable deposit.

I think that doing it like this keeps the berth holders costs down, no one pinching electric for nowt!!!!

Sorry you had a bad experience, but a small price for a great respite.

How did you find the shower's right next to you, good? And a place for breakfast, really convenient?

If I was that knacked, I'd tie up and get my head down and worry about it in the morning.

But thats me.

Fair winds and a happy visit next time your about.

Al.

Yep, I used to berth at Hasler, having moved from Moodys. Love the friendly fellow yachtsmen and the marina staff.

Surely the charging for electricity is the latest marina rip-off. Electricity should be included in the price of the berth. And I say should be coz their visitor rates are not cheap.

When I check into a hotel they don't charge me extra when I switch on the light in my room.

Villham, Villham, Villham!!!!

You lurking in the back ground?

Haslar I agree isn't the cheapest, but I feel the most customer focused. Elec is an added privilege to a Marina and not every one uses it. I always have a couple of power eating things aboard!!!

Cost is the main pain, but I don't expect FA for free, not nowadays.

I would be as chuffed as a rat with a gold tooth, if i add up my annual elec costs add it to the berthing cost, take off say 15% and pay that instead. But how would some poor sod who never use elec feel about AJ having it large with a %-age of their berthing fee? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

(On a separate note, We hope everything went aswell as could be expected for the family thing)

No, but if you go camping (which is probably a closer comparison), they usually do.

Al,

I feel there's a difference between permanent berth holders and visitors.

Berth holders are charged electricity seperate - for visitors it should be included. How much electricity can you use in, say 12 hrs, anyway?

Re the family thing: went as he had wanted it to go.

See your point,

I reckon it's the old, " Can't please all the people all the time..."

Come to think of it, I think you pay a tad extra if you hook up at most of the marinas, Yeah I'm sure you do.

Wow, thats got me thinking now, anyone else care to add?

Well - vote with your keel and go a few hundred yards north...

We haven't visited Haslar for a season now as we get a quieter night (with a tucked in berth) with electricity included and Gosport Premier Marina ... ok - no restaurant and it's a bit of a longer walk to the gosport ferry ... but it is cheaper and I can plug in without having to think - well, will I actually use the £x of electricity in a night? Highly unlikely - with only a 500w immersion heater and energy saving 240v light bulbs!! So we'd need to make up for it with the household kettle and toaster in the morning! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I wouldn't mind paying extra for elec - if it was just the cost of the elec ... but as it is a standard fee per night (anyone know how much?) no matter how much you use I feel like I'm being ripped off...
I know they "have to provide the electric points" etc etc ... but really - is it that much? They must have more than recovered the capital outlay by now ...

Was there visiting a friend last March, thought the whole set up very good, could not help noticing the wash , perhaps that was cos he was down near entrance and visitors berths?

You do - NOW. Didn't three years ago.
And it seems to be a South Coast/Solent thing. Still plenty about East Coast/Belgium/France where it's included.

Not everyone has to plug their boat into the electricity supply, which is why they charge it as an extra and hopefully will continue to do so. I would object very strongly to paying for something I can't and don't want to use, just to make life cheaper for those with much larger and more modern, gizmo-filled boats.

We have always been looked after at Haslar.

My husband was based at Portsmouth for many years, and has seen the growth of Haslar, and he did his diving course at HMS Vernon, which is now Gunwharf.

Haslar IS the gem of the Solent, pay the money get the service.

I will continue to visit!!
