Sat here Bank Holiday Monday and the place is closed/deserted - all afternoon and now the evening. Marina office tried to contact them and not answering the phone. Sign on the door says "Closed Tuesday", but nothing about Monday. Sat and watched any number of people walk up and walk away again. Have they gone under?

OK the weather's not great but still plenty of people about. Perhaps they think if the Lightship is closed people will walk up to Landers instead - not going to bother, they might be closed too. Suppose it will have to be the fleshpots of Gosport....

How about trying Cockburns on the Water, at Premiere Marina, I had a lovely meal there on Saturday, Its a new venture and still evolving, but the ambience on Saturday was perfect and I cant wait to try some more of their fresh fish menu.

Oh, and by the way, the lightship is now running as a members club but I believe its easy to become a member,

Is it open ? Been in C&N several times this summer and Cockburns was never open when needed ie mornings for breakfast.. Appeared to sell lager and little else afternoons and evenings so things must have changed.

That's the kiss of death then, that was Sunsail's downfall when they ran it.

I am a member of a couple of sailing clubs already and through them can go into just about any other club and get club prices - I can't be bothered to pay a commercial organisation just to use their facilities and to pay commercial prices - where do people get these ideas from?

Probably give the lightship a miss until another set of new owners along come then, as they probably will.

Something to do with licensing laws or access, a bit close to the water for public use, I dont beleive that they would have chosen to become a club,

We were there week before bank holiday 21/22/23rd Aug and it was open then. Few people in and the grub was lovely !
Nobody mentioned anything about a members club then

You don't need to be a member to drink/eat there (nobody asks) but you do need to know the marina code or have a barrier card to get access to the Lightship. I'm guessing that the "members" idea was a way of enabling non-sailing locals to gain access to the Lightship. As "members" they presumably get given the code, I imagine in exchange for proving identity on signing up. Maybe Haslar marina made the Lightship introduce a members system for security purposes?

I've always thought the security for boats berthed at Haslar might be compromised by having a bar/restaurant open to the public "waterside" of the marina.

We called in one Sat night early july -the air was full of burnt cooking oil ,but in fairness most tables reserved -so we went(yet again) elsewhere -actually to the Mexican on gunwharf and it was very good!

Had a meal in there last week under the new management - no indication of any "membership" being required.

Got in just after 7pm on the Friday night and got the last unbooked table. Menu reasonable, food good, staff pleasant and wine at only £10 a bottle - but same old problem with the kitchen. It just doesn't seem to be able to cope with simultaneous orders.

Didn't affect us but as we were leaving heard at least 2 tables (one of about 8 and one of 5) complaining that they had been waiting for over an hour for their main courses after having had their starters cleared.

Would use them again but pick my times carefully.

Mary Mouse - still not working

Was in Haslar a few weeks ago and tempted by the proximity of the Mary Mouse decided to give it a go. Some of the food was good but some was cold and/or undercooked and went back. Try again.
