Has your boat been struck by lightning?
Thinking about the after effects of a lightning strike and the various contractors, insurance and your geographical location:

What would you do differently if struck again?

I ask because we are still clearing problems from TWO years ago.

Cheers

Was struck while at anchor in Beaufort North Carolina. Vaporized masthead stuff like VHF aerial and masthead tri. A random selection of electronics were killed some were unplugged and sitting on a wooden table.

However the most serious consequence of the strike and one I had never worried about or thought of beforehand was that all compasses now pointed to a corner of my doghouse. Mine was a steel boat and was a now a strongly magnetized steel boat.

I was extremely lucky to find a very friendly and helpful expert in Norfolk who normally worked degaussing US warships who came out and for a 6 pack carried out the rituals to scramble the magnetism.

I don't know if this will help you or not - a detailed description of the aftermath of a lightning strike on a Nordhavn:

If it ever happens to us (please, please, please say it won't) I think we would employ a loss adjuster immediately with a brief to negotiate a deal with the insurers under which we would just sell the boat as it stands, preferably by sealed bids by a fixed closing date, and let the new owner repair it. Our claim would then be for the difference between the net sales proceeds and what the boat was worth before the strike. We want to go boating, not spend years trying to fix a damaged boat. This is just an idea, I don't know enough about insurance law to be able to work out whether our policy allows for this sort of thing or not. I suspect it doesn't but on the other hand I would at least try to negotiate that outcome.

I'd be interested to hear more about your story jamesuk.
