I know it’s Christmas Day, and I’m very sad to be asking this today, but has Ron Hale Marine in Southsea closed? I was discussing next years boating with our daughter and she needs her outboard serviced. She bought it from Ron Hale Marine so it was natural to go back there for its service but Google says permanently closed. Furthermore the web link doesn’t work which makes me wonder whether they’ve gone out of business?

I think it has - I tried to buy an inflatable from them a couple of months ago and all was as you have found. Fortunately our dink mended itself!

Yes, indeed a shame.

His website was saying no new inflatable orders quite a few months back as he was closing down.

Walked past the shop today - there is a note on the Door and in the windows says he decided to retire and did so in June 2021. There is a fair amount of ancillary items in the shop, but no outboards and I’m told that his son is slowly selling it all off.

Funny story but waaay old , c1995

Years ago went in there to buy spares for Mariner 5 . Armed with Mariner workshop manual , I reeled off the part numbers required and his response was :
“YOU shouldn’t have that book, where did you get that , that’s for us in the trade only, how are we expected to make a living if you have that and can strip one down, eh? We have inventory and specialist tools and overhead “
Fair enuff ?
“Well I’m off cruising and you aren’t coming with me are you ?’’
He very begrudgingly sold me the gaskets and spares… A profit is a profit I guess !
