Just trying to get my Olas mob detector to work with my hudl. The alarm works fine but getting back to the mob is difficult as the hudls position is haphazard.
We are in the proximity of harbour buildings but not enough to affect GPS satellite cover...... But maybe enough to block phone triangulation......will investigate further but can. Anyone give a short answer please???

My Hudl2 definitely has GPS. Not certain, but you might have to enable it in "settings".
Phone triangulation needs a SIM, not available with a Hudl AFAIK.

My Hudl mk1 has GPS.
It won't using phone mast triangulation, as it has no phone in it.

The GPS in the Hudl is not very good. Mine takes a long time to acquire and is prone to losing GPS signal, possible due to my hand being over the aerial although I don't actually know where the aerial is. Whereas my phone will acquire satellites when it's on the floor of my car, the Hudl mostly fails to do so. It works better on the dash.

AFAIK all Hudls have GPS built in. I never got to use mine on a boat however as it packed up before I bought a replacement boat and was replaced with a Samsung Galaxy Tab A which is much better device. I got a full refund on my Hudl even though it was out of warranty as Tesco no longer supported them. (Tesco found that developing and supporting computers is more tricky than selling groceries).

I use GPS Status to, um, check GPS status on my Android phones.

It shows how many satellites have been acquired and so on.

If you allow it to install the status plug in (a separate download) it shows an icon in the top bar whenever Android's location services are being used, and you can quickly access the app via this notification.

Yes, quite useful to check sats. and signals. The original HUDL didn't have great GPS capability but was usually fine outdoors. We used TomTom on ours in hire cars without a problem. The HUDL2 was much better than the original but both models were always fine on a boat at sea.
