And here's the email that accompanied the photos above, from Colros' former owner:

dear barbara,
Thanks for the updates on david and colros, please find the attached photo's of david as he left salcombe on saturday the 16th december, that morning i thought i would go and see if he had left. It was completely by chance i went out to sea to have a look for him as i thought he left on friday, then i saw a mast about 3 miles away, chased after it and to my surprise it was colros then i took pictures and waved goodbye.Later i sent a text message and i think he replied, anyway i certainly havn't given up hope on the bugger yet.
Thanks again for the e-mails.

For background reference, Colros has a sister ship called Wandering Star - her crew are 'littleboat' on here, but I don't think they have been on for some time - they have only made one post, and that was almost 3 years ago now.
In their bio they mention that they are now in Australia - we know that they sailed out there from Europe.
Barbara has sent me a nice photo of Wandering Star, which I will attach below - I hope that the littleboat crew do not mind if I post it here.

Thanks for posting that photo, Martin. Not sure what to say other than thanks to everyone who's read this thread, who keeps visiting to see if we've heard news, to send support and even just to say they haven't stopped following the story, like Al, above. If we hadn't been able to share this with all of you, it would have been so much harder to endure.

I've just re-read the posts from Magna Carter, Twister_Ken, Henry, and Simonjk, above -- and I wanted to say again that I appreciate your having spent time to really think this through and come up with some excellent theories. (Let's not forget our "guardian angel", Martin Smyth, who has been unfailingly championing our cause.) I realise that David's disappearance is a mystery but I do have a strong feeling that we'll know more soon. David set off 13 weeks ago today.

I think I'll have to go to sea myself at some point to see what this is really all about!

David's now officially "missing" so the UK police have contacted us. They're going to pursue various possibilities and of course I'll post any news here. I was reading Moitessier's The Long Way and wanted to post some quotes here:

"If visibility does not improve by tomorrow I will have to drop my plan of giving word [to my family] at Hobart. Southern Tasmania is really full of pitfalls, with rocks reaching far offshore... The new moon makes things worse: tidal current are strong, the nights are dark. How long have my family and friends been without news? I have no idea... I listen to the sea, I listen to the wind, I listen to the sails talking with the rain and the stars amid the sounds of the sea and I am not sleepy. At times he heard the "call" with every fibre of his being. For some time, I have been hearing it too. And that, perhaps, is the long way. I can only give them my first log, with birds, sea, daily signs and little everyday problems. My real log is written in the sea and sky; it can't be photographed and given to others. Dear Barbara

I write with a heavy pen. Although we all hope for David's wellbeing, I think your family also has to contemplate the possibility that he has been overwhelmed. Sorry to say this, but it was December when he was last heard of and my impression of him is that he would never deliberately put you through such suffering as you are going through

Take heart at least that he fulfilled himself, and if I am are proved wrong I'll be the first to celebrate

This is an awful post of mine and I've thought carefully before sending it

Dear Tom,

I do take heart that if David had to leave us, he went doing exactly what he had always hoped to do - being free, out on the ocean, in his boat. When he departed Newlyn on December 22nd, he had reached a pinnacle in his life, having planned and worked toward this goal for a long time. His mindset was supremely happy and fulfilled. He is and always will be very deeply loved by family and friends, because he is such an inspiring and wonderful person.

This is not an awful post at all, Tom. As you so rightly say, I know that David would never deliberately put us through such suffering as we have been through - he is too loving and caring.

I will continue to update the Forum as and when I receive news.

Well done Tome,I wouldnt have had the courage to write that but agree with what you say . I think its a case of hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.

It's the most difficult post I've ever made here, and I took a long time to contemplate sending it

David is obviously a very special person and would that I'd made his acquaintance. I'm quite sure we'd have become friends

I'm one of David's sons (strictly a step-son, but he's been Dad for over 16 years)

I just wanted to add my thanks as well, i've been following the thread and the support from everyone is much appreciated.

This isn't the result we all wanted, but i suppose no news is...still no news.

Nobody wants to be first to suggest "destickying" this thread (ie.so it doesn't stay at the top regardless) and I imagine that because of its sensitive nature, ybw moderators won't much want to arbitrarily de-sticky either. So one of us has to suggest it. I suggested making it sticky and this is me now, very very sadly, suggesting that it is made unsticky.

I admit it does seem a bit like "giving up looking" but that isn't so at all: there was a possibilty that ybw viewers might miss this post, and the stickiness has eliminated that possibilty. With several weeks of full exposure anyone who sees this forum on an even casual basis and has seen Colros should/would by now have put the two together.

Also of course, if the boat (or more importantly its occupant) is found, then either this thread can be resurrected - or perhaps a newer happier thread can be started. I would love to see that thread.

As far as the forum goes tho, i wd say ybw has given it the best shot possible, and turned up no sightings.

I have simply pressed "notify moderator" of the thread, as it is they/he that make or unmake it sticky : if you feel strongly otherwise - that it should stay sticky - then send a pm to keithwalker - let's not have a row about it here.

In any event - darnit: I really really wanted this to work for Colros's friends and relatives.

I'm happy to leave it up until after Easter. I think TCM's raised a fair point but let's give it another week. If there are any developments I'll revisit this decision.

Barbara, very late in the day in joining this thread, but I am going to forward the link across to Marian Martin the editor of Boats Yachts Marinas. She runs a non public forum for skippers of large private yachts. As a lot of these yachts tend to ply the waters where Davids route would have taken him, maybe this is another avenue that could be explored.

At the end of the day it is just another possibility that may shed some light on his whereabouts.
