Has anyone got navisafe lights

lights

I think you (Dylan) suggested that you might only use your nav lights once or twice per season.
I would therefor suggest an anchor light that will double as a single all round white light.
This can easily be made by using one of the very cheap Chinese LED 12v bulbs. It can be mounted in a glass jar of suitable size and hoisted on a halyard or flag halyard. You can either run a wire from the jar down to the ships power (best option) or run it on batteries in the jar. ie 9v battery plus a few cells or better still a 10 cell holder with 10xAA NiMh rechargeable batteries.

Something like this will draw .13 amp at 12v and is very bright

This might suit in itself just hoisted up a little way.

This one is incredibly bright at .3 amp. Easy to unsolder the funny plug base. I have set up 4 as room light at home with a 240v regulator. brilliant. It is intended as a bulb for a fog light or spot light but obviously not so successful there. at US$1.83 it is cheap enough.

This one is the baby drawing about .125amp is still very bright. Easy to pull off the wedge base to expose 2 wires for soldering. I use one of these with just 2 of the 5050LEDs (3 removed) for a stern light . It is very adequate and bright.
Have a go Dylan a good winter project and very cheap. If you don't think it suitable LED bulbs are always useful for inside the cabin. good luck olewill

Just looked at the Navilghts promotional video. The lights seem ideal for a back-up set, so am adding them to my Christmas wish list.

Hi Dylan, I know this was a while ago but I recommend these lights. As far as I can tell, these Navisafe lights are the best temporary\emergency lights on the market. I use one every week on a rowing boat and it is better than most permanent nav lights. The lights on my boat went kaput so I rush bought a set of the cylinder jobs previously mentioned which seem to be for sale in every chandlers.....still, and as mentioned, they are rubbish. Navisafe are excellent if pricey but you will throw away 3 sets of the horrible cylinder options before you need to replace the batteries on the Navisafe. No affiliation by the way, just a satisfied customer. I picked mine up at the Düsseldorf boat show.

Depends how long you leave the lights on! However, Dylan is very very old and time accelerates as you get older so 2012 is a mere blink of an eye for the well known East Anglian agitator.

For emergency nav lights (a requirement for me to carry for Cat 5 night racing) I had some old incandescent screw on the side of the cabin type nav lights. I mounted inside the lamp 3x LED white bulbs ex Christmas lights all in parallel with 27 ohm series resistor. The bulbs are aligned one forward one at rightangles and one between. I glued on the side a 18650 Li ion battery holder and just bang in an 18650 battery (3.7 volt). I carry the batteries for a flashlight. The whole sheebang is taped onto the side of the cabin with gaffer tape if needed. Next to the formal nav lights. For stern light any LED flood light will do.
No I would never buy the emergency nav lights available in chandlers. Expensive and dim.
