I don't know how Hardy do it ... but the washer water usually comes straight from the boat's main fresh water tank.

if they on f/water system then there will be a solenoid valve, this is not the prefered method as there is no way of using additive and the jets scale up easily. As for finding what you have can you press the switch and hear the pump running? This will help to locate reservoir if fitted.

Tim, I have a large instruction manual with the boat, it states water reservoir is std side of engine, however they have obviously not fitted it there, but Hardy's are built rather like that I believe, certainly not mass production. I don't think it is run from the fresh water tank in this instance as a few weeks ago I used them and they jetted out water followed by a bit of green sludge then nothing... so I interpreted that as there is a reservoir and the dregs at the bottom had been bought through the system which now is empty and needs re-filling... but could be wrong. I will need to get the wheelhouse headlining down and trace the pipes... Actually just thinking about it, I did look at the water tanks and there didn't appear to be a pickup point for the washers... but they, as well as everything else on the boat, seems to be rather tucked away.. Thanks for your thoughts

I press the switch and can hear a very faint click, but as yet cannot locate, certainly not in the engine bay... and any further than that and my arm won't reach to operate the button to search where the noise is coming from.. Next time SWMBO & daughter are down they will be drafted in to operate switch so I can trace...!!

A click would suggest a solenoid, rather than a separate reservoir. The bit of green slime could just have been in the pipe between the solenoid and tank.

Personally, i wouldn't be keen on taking the water from the main tank. First, you can't add any additive, as mentioned. Secondly, if the solenoid malfunctions, you could contaminate the potable water. Less than £20 will get you a full washer kit (bottle, pump, pipe and jets)

If its such a problem then fit a new automotive type bag reservoir, you can add additives and you know where it is located.
