Has anybody got a puller for a cutless bearing?

When my boat was last out 2 years ago the cutless was getting a bit loose. I am expecting to replace it in March when I next came out. I wondered if anybody localish has a puller for a 1" shaft and 1.5" o/d bearing.

I have seen one on the MOA website (which I might be able to borrow at postage cost). Presumably these are quite common though. Or do peeps have other techniques?

I'm planning to do this very shortly (removed prop yesterday), and hope to replace the cutless with the propshaft still in place, as removal would almost certainly entail removal of rudder (= huge bu**erage factor).

A thread on the PBO forum was running on this, http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthrea...Cutlass-Bearing-Replacement&highlight=cutlass and one of the posters gives details & a pic of a tool he made to do this and I'm thinking of doing the same.

My shaft is 25mm, bearing o/d is 35mm-ish.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Rudloph - my boat is still in the water but I think the cutless bearing on mine comes out towards the engine and there is a lip on the P bracket to stop it coming out over the prop end. Be interested to know how you get on and if you made the puller (which might be good enough for a 1" shaft too as only 0.4mm different).

Got mine out of the stern tube [1inch shaft] with a hacksaw blade to cut the metallic tube backing on a longitudinal line, then pried it up and pulled with mole grips. Apart from the longish process of delicately cutting the slot in the backing tube, it was quite straight forward. Mine had grub screws to hold it in place - obviously removed those first!

Will do.

Successfully removed my cutless bearing with the home made tool this weekend, so you're welcome to use it. The o/d of my cutless is 38mm, so should be OK for yours, provided the P-bracket's 'lip' doesn't reduce i/d to less than 38mm. PM me to discuss.
