Hi Folks,

Its been a few years since we have made this passage,so purchased a new Imray C30.This shows suggested routes and waypoints which is helpful but I would appreciate your thoughts on the following. The chart route takes you down the side of the Long Sand Head Two way route then across the Sunk Traffic Separation Scheme South where it meets the Sunk Outer.By going from the Long Sand Head Buoy across the Two way route and then diagonally across the Sunk Outer to near the Galloper Ferry Route would save a few miles.I have also previously gone in a reasonable straight line from the South Galloper Buoy to the Westerschelde passing near the Track Ferry Buoy rather than via the dog leg to the Westehinder Buoy shown on the chart. Are there good reasons for the routes shown on the chart and are there any points I should consider other than an awareness of the sand banks. Will time passage to carry the tide into the Westersschelde.

Many thanks

Rob

I bought a new Imray C30 but I don't recall seeing any suggested routes :o Once past LSH do what you want (or what the wind and tide want you to do). Just mind those big floating metal things that are going faster than you.

I think the first lock at Flushing is 0600 but the first bridge just round the corner is later - mind you the hours may be longer now than they were in May.

Have a good one.

How about the northern route?

I also bought the new C30 as I'm planning on doing this trip in a couple of weeks time. They have several recommended routes, but I was tempted by the northern one. This goes up around the top of the Shipwash, then West Gabbard. It then goes straight across to the North Channel entrance at Kaloo. About the same distance but looks less busy.

The only people I have talked to seem to go the other way and I'm wondering why. Am I missing something? Tides ..?

Anybody tried it?
