Also worth remembering this is a 36, which according to my Google search may have a draft of close on 2 metres (actually 1.96)....
In a wind over tide chop at half tide blowing a hoolie with a 1.9m draught. Some call me brave, others know I am stupid, but, I can assure you when I did it with FC (1.2m) with Pete Cooper on board it was unpleasant. For hours.I'm not sure we should be encouraging the OP to try the Rays'n at this early stage in his career...... When I first started sailing around here I wouldn't have gone anywhere near it.![]()
I only crossed from Bradwell to Tollesbury, that was rock'n'roll enough....2015 has been the year of being beaten up by the River Blackwater. First time was after the ECF get together in April 30knots of wind on a flood tide Ouch!
The second time was last Sunday 12/7 Only (?) 26 knots also on a flood. Wind on the nose and as rough as I wanted it (!!!) all the way from Bench Head.
Amazing how the short steep chop has the ability to be generated over relatively not a great fetch.
You would think I would have learnt something. Oh I have 'do not plan a passage with wind against tide':encouragement:
