My parents house in Harwich was practically burnt to the ground last week along with four other listed properties. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-16067673

Contractors were working on the roof of the next door house, we think either repairing a flat roof or repairing a dormer window, either way they were using a gas blow torch, in high winds on a listed timber framed structure.

The contractor is making every attempt to wriggle out of any responsibility. I have started a Facebook group asking for members to apply some pressure to Roalco Ltd, the sooner they are open about what was going on, the sooner we can get the rebuild process moving.

If there are any Facebook members here I would be very gratfeul if you could join the group and email Roalco expressing your thoughts.

Many thanks

What a dreadful thing to happen. I'm sorry for your parents and the stress this puts on you at a time of enough stress.

Details and images on Essex Fire Service website.

It really doesn't who was to blame - it's happened and an insurance company will put it right - not any time soon obviously. I hope they were adequately insured.

I expect the contractors insurers have told them not admit liability - to do so often invalidates your policy.

Very sad not only for the people involved but also for Harwich. We wandered round there for the first time back in the summer and thought it was a gem.
