I guess I will find out later today because Harleyford boats are overnighting here. I have heard though that Harleyford Motor Yacht Club have disbanded and that many have joined the Upper Thames Motor Yacht Club. Which presents another conundrum. I thought the Upper Thames were limiting membership due to be over subscribed.

I would be interested to hear what you find out Byron.
I don't think they have disbanded, but are likely to if they can't find anyone to form a committee. It was strange to see a bunch of them at Fawley Meadow on Saturday while their commdore was cruising up towards Sonning.

A good number of them have been members of Upper Thames for several years already.

They started joining UTMYC years ago - the first time this rumour got out! It has been rumbling around since then.

Wonder if its true this time

There was a bunch of them at UTMYC yesterday afternoon when I pulled in with Margaret.:D

HMYC

Well I belong to both HMYC and UTMYC and have no knowledge of HMYC disbanding.
The boats at UTMYC yesterday were part of the HMYC upriver cruise which is very much "in progress", so disbanding seems unlikely and anyway would surely require a General Meeting to officially disband.
I think they are just in a bad patch. Hopefully all will be resolved.

As for Byron's observation on UTMYC being "over subscribed" on membership? Not as far as I know. For Associate membership, possibly, but would be very surprised if it applied to Full Membership.

UTMYC was oversubscribed for full membership and close for associate but that was before they had the extension built.

Not sure where you get your information from Pande and probably not relevant, but I still say you are wrong about Full Membership. I have been a member for a long time and no stop on new full members.

miket - there was no "stop" on full membership but there should have been. With the extension coming up it was decided that they were ok to carry on.

Whatever !
Despite any internal problems Harleyford might have just now and all clubs have their ups and downs. The turn out they had on the stop over here was truly excellent with some boats banked three out.

Fantastic - I must say we say loads of them going up river over the weekend - nice to see!!

Swmbo and i were told that membership was to be limited and we were lucky to get in when we joined, oct 2007.

Had we known you had applied we would have all registered our objections. After all the last thing the UTMYC needs is people who leave their fenders dangling ;)
