hi FP.....got to ask...Why is there (appears) no fouling on the main part of the legs??.....exhaust heat perhaps? or just "the way it is"?

Could be.

In regular use, the upper part of an outdrive does get quite warm - possibly not the most desirable place to attach if you're slimey the weed.
