Hard Standing for Holyhead boats?

Good Day All,

Where do the boats on swinging moorings in Holyhead spend the winter?
I'm thinking of relocating to Holyhead and I'm exploring options.
Are moorings usually available upon joining the sailing club or is there still a waiting list?
I've always been marina based but I now need to reduce running costs.
The tender service at the sailing club makes a swinging mooring there an appealing proposition. A mooring in the Straights or Conwy river etc. would be just too inconvenient after a long drive.

Any advice and information will be appreciated.

There's the Trinity yard next to the marina. Other than that there's the Menai Strait, ABC at Gallows point, Dinas at Port Dinorwic, Port Dinorwic Marina, Dickies(?), Port Daniel, Fort Belan, Conway Marina.

Is there not still a launch service on the river at Conwy? Also, by the time you've driven the extra 40 miles to Holyhead you'd be passing The Scabs under sail. With your draft you would have 24 hr access to the river at Conwy on small tides. I moved to Holyhead Marina from Conwy for one season and that was more than long enough.

Yes there's a launch on the river at Conwy. Daytime Sun - Thurs, then evenings too on Fri and Sat in the season.

Many, but not all, spend winter on the hard within the marina. (if you have a fin keel you'll need to provide a cradle). A couple of seasons ago someone at the sailing club came up with a great initiative to hire a crane for a day and put a dozen or so boats in the car park for the winter. It didn't happen in subsequent years but I don't know why not. Competition doesn't seem to be favoured much within the marine business. The marina hoist is limited to 13ft 6 inch beam. Wider than this and you'll have to look elsewhere.

You'll need to join the sailing club in order to qualify for (applying for) a swinging mooring. Subjectively, the mooring trots did not look full this season so you may not have a problem.

Sad but true, on average there's probably one boat per season tries to escape its mooring. One was less than two weeks ago. It evenually hit a wall and, as it was being towed to safety, sank. Last weekend I took a picture of the top couple of feet of the mast and forestay sticking out of the water. Not a nice sight.
