Can anyone tell me if the Harbourfast anchor is the same as a CQR?

I have experienced a few instances of anchor dragging, especially in Osborne Bay and the ledge off Newtown Creek, although when the anchor does set properly it is rock solid. I was told the Harbourfast was not a genuine CQR.

Does anyone have any info on thewse anchors? cheers

IMHO, if it doesn't say CQR in the stock, then it ain't a CQR. Mind you, I have a genuine one and it's let me down by not setting properly a few times.

Once in Osbourne Bay, it absolutely refused to set. WHen I pulled it up, it had speared an oyster shell, so got the shell off and tried again. The same thing happened! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

It was OK when I moved a couple of hundred yards though.

Thanks steve, i thought that might be the case although some of the web search i have done implies that the harbourfast was a simpson lawrence anchor, but as you say if it doesnt have CQR i too think it isnt the genuine article

Perfectly right.. but altough manufactured by Simpson Lawrence (Lewmar) it is NOT a CQR but only a cheap copy!..

IIRC, the important differences between the genuine item and the cheap ones are that the cheaper ones may not be balanced properly to dig in, but more importantly, the stocks on many of the cheaper ones are cast rather than forged, which makes them brittle. I have seen pictures of one that snapped.

I hate the thought of my boat - and me /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif - depending on that!
