I'm in the process of buying a 53' NB in Worcester (subject to survey) and have been told she was built by Hapton in 1989. Does anyone know anything about them as I seem to be hitting a brick wall on the Internet.any assistance gratefully received.

NBs are a craft industry - a lot of small fabricators and fitters-out who come and go.
It's not a name that I would recognise. Even 'Hampton' doesn't ring a bell. There's not-a-lot on the Thames, so try -

and ask there. Somebody might know

I've discovered they were up in Lancashire and went out of business about ten years ago. I've seen a few advertised for sale but getting some feedback on their overall build quality is proving a challenge to say the least. But that's for the reply and I will keep on persevering

Your survey should throw up any build issues, but I would check if the hull of that age has been re-plated. I would be wary of a re-plated hull. Plenty of canal boat forums will answer your fears/questions. A friend bought a narrowboat that did not have marine ply floors. Just standard ply. After a shower leak, the whole floor had to be replaced...
