Please could someone tell me what happened to the Happy Eater brand cafes that used to compete with the Little Chefs. I feel the Little Chefs need some serious competion from a company in the same line. Consistant standards all over the country but at a better price.
The fry-ups in the laybys may be good in places but you never know what you are going to get.

Did'nt they get taken over by...........................................Little Chef.

NB If your travelling go to Little Chef website they frequently have print off discount vouchers.

They were described by an old motorcycling friend of mine as " uniformly Mediocre" and he called them "Little Thiefs"
Which just about sums it up..

Before we had Motorways we had Transport Cafes... Some were brilliant.. I still remember breakfast at the cafe on the south side of Shap ...and of course some were grim..

You cant win em all but you can keep on trying...
Cheers Bob E..

I think they were killed off by their own logo which showed a little cartoon character sticking his fingers down his throat.

Re: Forte

Bought them and re branded them as Little Chefs in the main. An attempt was made to use the brand in a more modern roadside restaurant. I worked on one on the A1 at Colsterworth but it didn't get going very well, before Granada bought Forte which just about killed off any new development.

Not sure it makes any difference does it? Everything on the menu tasted the same, whichever one you went in!
