Hanse 400e

they sail really well, due to the huge main sail. don't like the self taking Genoa though... Build quality is on par with a Bav (okay a bit better !). I know of a few with quality issues especially on the so called stainless rigging that rusts after 6 month's !

Nice boat though !

Ghost, a 420e came third in her class in the last Fastnet when most boats pulled out or fell by the wayside. However, I've raced against her a few times and was less than blown away by the performance.

A friend of mine did an Atlantic circuit recently with a brand new one. By the time he got to the Canaries the stainless was stained badly, in fact the spayhood frame and pushpit looked as though they had been taken from a secondhand boat. The sliding hatch/washboard arrangement could not be made secure at all in fact you ceould gain access without unlocking it, really poor design, they may have changed that by now. His main saloon table was loose and wobbling also when he arrived in the canaries and he had some electrical issues as well.
By the time he returned to the UK the list had lengthened somewhat, notably one of the bulkheads was moving and the hull was flexing badly on the port side.

As for performance he did some reasonable times so she slipped along ok and he is singlehanded See Here

Hanse are a good performance cruiser not a out & out racer.

Quality is on par with most production AWB's with the superior quality always being an atribute of only the one production make that you bought.

For unbiased opinion on quality issues contact any charter company that has a Hanse on charter in addition to the rest. Charter boats find out the weak point first.

I am aware that Hamble Point Yacht Charters are not impressed by them but thats only one company.
