actually, I have lived in China for 30 years and know this producer.
They are related to the chain of "mini" engines made for Yamaha, Suzuki and the like.
It is a good product, if you want a secure buy use
http://cnzjyuanhang.en.alibaba.com/ there you will find delivery guarantee and others.

However, it is illegal to import such an item into the EU. It will be the importer (that is the customer) who will be breaking the law, not the supplier. So, does not matter how good the product might be, it is not wise to buy one for use in the EU.

I believe there is someone who sells Chinese outboards from Portsmouth. They, presumably, are the importer ...

Something flakey going on with the pricing of these outboards on the seller's ebay shop.
The 2014 3.6 hp is £255.88
The older 3.6 hp with a different shaped cowling is £205.25
A 2 hp - £1,197.27 (!)

Think you will find it is a phantom in Portsmouth. The engine comes direct to you from elsewhere. Don't think any trader would be stupid enough to break the law, but will put the onus onto the buyer as the importer.

If I were in the market for a cheap outboard, this would not be for me, just read the warranty details!! I did need a new outboard last year, found a Honda 2.3 ss at Ely boat chandlers for about £100 less than other chandlers, ordered it and got it in 48hrs good price £150 or so more than this Chinee one with a UK warranty.
Jon
Just a very happy customer of Ely Chandlers

That usually means there is no stock, it's easy to temporarily add a grand to the price than to change the e-bay page. it seems to happen quite a lot with many different items.

Well yes:

"Repairing:The item will have one full year warranty from us starting from the day you got our parcel. In most cases when item got
problems we shall send you necessary parts with free cost for your own replacement so you needn't return the machine to us for
repairing. And we shall provide online technical guide for you to replace the parts."

Not a great reassurance.

True. On the other hand, I bought some solar panels which were made in China but shipped from Portsmouth ... to the EU. I've seen that a few times, so I think Portsmouth may have a flourishing unofficial import and stockholding sector. I agree about the risks anyone doing that would be taking.

It's mainly done because if you withdraw a listing you lose the "972 sold" bit at the top, which sellers like because it suggests popularity. So instead they bump the price up to some ludicrous level (IBM Thinkpad Charger for £1,500, anyone) so that the listing stays open but nobody actually buys anything, then when stock comes in they drop the price again.
