Having time on my hands and having seen the thread abut the boat that was hit In Stokes Bay I went looking for a bright LED anchor light that I can hang from the boom/Backstay/wherever it is the most visible.
Seems like no-one makes one so I will have get the component parts and make one up.....seems strange to me.
Am I missing something?

I have one fabricated from an old Schwartz spice bottle, hung upside down with the bulbholder fixed inside the screw cap.

I am not responsible for this genius design which came from PBO, wayback. I never use it much as I have an oil lamp. However I intend to swing into the new millennium and update it to LED. I will then have the trendy electrical item in the cockpit and the miner's lamp forward.

I recently bought one from Sailingsaves, of this parish.

It's brilliant (haha), and certainly cheap enough.

A very happy (totally independent) customer.

It would be worth pm'ing him.

I have one of these supplied by one of our forum members http://www.boatlamps.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d80.html

Fit it at the same time as the anchor ball, plug it in and forget it. Has a dusk till dawn sensor so completely automatic, and over night the led bulb uses next to nothing.

basically it is a Davis Mega Light > but better

This possibly - http://www.force4.co.uk/force-4-utility-anchor-light.html

Several threads about this, I think the general consensus was to get one of these which gives you dawn/dusk switching and if you didn't like the bulb then get a suitable LED replacement from Boatlamps/SeaRolf...

I got mine from a local chandlery several years ago and have put an LED bulb in - happy with it.

Beaten to it...

Ta for that. With the brighter bulb, perfect! And only 100m/amp

Your welcome.

Just as a matter of interest I also got all my led replacement interior light bulbs from the same chap when I converted the interior lights to led. I found him very helpful, and he gave me suggestions on how to do it and the best type of adapters to use, as some of my lights were Bulkhead type.

No connection, just a happy bunny :)

I picked up one of these in-store at Tesco and am very pleased with it.

I use rechargable AAs with it set one click down from its highest setting and it lights up the foredeck nicely too and is still going strong come morning.

P.S. I see that the first review is from someone (not me) using it as an anchor light.

That looks exactly the same as the one I use, even down to the stupid little compass on top. The only difference is that I got mine from Aldi at half the price. I also use rechargeable AAs, but I leave mine on maximum and hang it from the boom to illuminate the cockpit. It's brilliant.

Reminds me we all had a laugh at my mates expense.
He had not realised our lamp had a photocell to turn it on at dusk.
He was puzzled that it worked in the saloon but when he took it up in the cockpit it stopped working.:D

A friend of mine - a professor of engineering - reduced his local Renault dealer to helpless laughter when he took back his two week old car to complain that the locking kept undoing itself while he was away from the car. One short explanation of proximity unlocking later he left, chastened.

I didnae say that I paid full price :-) I think they were £3.50 in store. Wish I'd bought a couple now.
