Handy pdf books and manuals site

+1 thanks!

Past experience with these sort of sites is that they don’t always stay up for long (or the best stuff gets taken down), so raid it while you can! ?

Thanks.

I worry about downloading malware with these type of sites.

Can anyone find out how reliable a website such as pdfdrive.com is? I don't want to jeopardize my computer, with malware or ransomware.

If it's possible for your computer to be infected by downloading a pdf file you shouldn't be on the internet. Any decent anti-virus software will keep you safe from such things.

I wear protection, correction, I have protection.

I've downloaded about 20 books and they are all pdf documents and scan clean. There is an option to read the pdf in your browser and from there click save if you are worried.

It's worth noting if it says epub or mobi in the box, then use the small drop down arrow at right of select box and select pdf.

Good anti virus software will still keep you safe.

Yes I know what you are saying but how many times have I downloaded something and found my browser is now Chrome or my preferred application for opening a file has changed or I've loaded "tracking cookies"?

Fortunately my browser (Mozilla Firefox) warns me if I am about to open a dangerous website.

See top right of your link - Free Downloads :ROFLMAO:
They suggest Virus Total. How are you going to put it on your machine without downloading and running an executable? Much more dangerous IMO than downloading a PDF and viewing it!

I always do a check like "Is Malwarebytes Labs safe?

Invariably I get an opinion from a Third Party. In this case PC Magazine.

Is Malwarebytes reliable?
Malwarebytes Free does a good job of wiping out aggressive malware that gets past your regular antivirus, but its lack of real-time protection means it should only be a secondary line of defense.Nov 9, 2019

These search sites targeting 'grey areas' of copyright (like pdfdrive.com) tend to make revenue from people clicking on the surrounding adverts/links and these, in turn. are sometimes for 'nuisance' software (or potentially worse).

IMO you just have to accept this, trust your antivirus and/or Windows defender (and increasingly browsers themselves will warn you), and use your better instincts (i.e. if you're looking to download a book but instead see downloads for 'PC security' or some such, then try to avoid them, cancel, close, navigate away, etc...).

As for the PDFs on here, all appear kosher and - seeing as it is a grey area and all - let's just say 'someone who isn't me' could get a very nice electronic 'library' for the boat and save a lot of space/£££.

Of course, should also accept that it isn't entirely ethical - even if it is arguably pretty harmless by the time links end up on widely-accessible search sites. Perhaps consider buying a new edition, or sometime else from the same author, if the works are ultimately found to be of value (many that end up on search sites like these tend to be older editions or superseded anyway)?

I've often looked at my bookshelf on the yacht I am building and thought it was a bit "dated" these days. But I've got lots of (paper) books which I'll take aboard. A prized possession "A field guide to ocean birds of the world". And I bought Steve Dashew's book on eBay the other day "The Circumnavigator's Handbook" (Autographed too!! :D)

I was just looking at chart table images on the internet and was delighted to see someone else with a paper based library
