'cos SWMBO says I either wear gloves when handling the anchor chains or wear them when handling her. My previously Hammerited rusty chains need re-galvanising and to save my recreational pursuits can anyone reccomend a Company close to Sandhurst where I can take the anchor chains for clean/re-galvanising? They are otherwise in good condition and I don't want to replace them and couldn't at present afford that anyway. Most of the outfits I've googled come from way up North and I don't have a visa for North or the Thames!

You want to find a friendly blacksmith, metalworker, trailer maker type person who gets galvanising done in serious quantities and persuade him/her to add your chain to the load.
Galvanising is paid for by weight added and there is usually a minimum charge that makes a new chain look attractive unless you can piggy back on a bigger order.
Beware - not all galvanisers shoogle the chain during the process - non-shooglers return a solid mass that may require hours of hammering to return articulation.

What an excellent word. Never heard it before but will definitely use it at any opportunity. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

we looked into it a few month's back depending how much chain you have... ie... 30 metre or less of 8mm it's cheaper to buy new ! if you get it galvanised it's better if it goes on a vibrator /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Oooo errrrr... to get an equal coating.

wash your hands before approaching SWMBO rather than just afterwards?

Handling the anchor and chain is something where it would be sense to use leather gloves anyway.
