Handling an oil leak on volvo penta bp600 bow thruster

Hello gents !

I have a discontinued ql bp 600 bow thruster which seems to loose oil via the oil drain plug . Removed the prop and the seam seems to be not affected . Not sure why , any ideas ?

Assuming the gearhousing is not cracked ( no signs it could be ) , is it an idea to use some teflon tape and / or sealant on the drain plug and give it a try ?

I used sierra marine gearoil .

There should be a "gasket" under the head of the drain screw. If that is damaged then a soft copper washer or a fibre washer will work.

Great information ! I will try a gasket there as a first easy fix ! at my thruster the gasket is missing there
