Handheld GPS

E-trex - generally great & easy to use but I'm going to add a negative comment: If I remember correctly they are supposed to be waterproof to 0.5m for 30 mins. Mine packed up due to water ingress during some nasty weather despite it being in pocket or hand (and no, my hand wasn't underwater) the whole time. It wasn't a major prob cos I had a fixed GPS too and Garmin refunded me promptly.

I think I will probably get a Garmin 72 next - can someone please tell me if it has an anchor alarm? Cheers.

I can recommend the Garmin 12 LX, have used one for years. Make sure you get one with a 12v power lead and an NMEA out put (some of the cheeper ones dont have) then if you buy a DSC VHF , chart plotter, auto pilot or just a laptop you will be able to use the position info with other software and will save you money in the future.
