Has anyone used ATIS on the HX300? I bought one for the EU inland waterways but it seems to limit me to to Ch 15 & 17 which is useless.

You receive them together with included instructions on how to set up for UK as they have settings for 5/6 different UK countries. There is a coloured slip with instructions in the box. I did two recently for our club.

That's how mine arrived a few days ago. It's an EU version and no problem to set up for the UK.
Press and hold 16/9 and Preset while switching on.
Up to show '01'
Press Preset. You should see 'SET' appear
Switch off.
Switch on and you should have M & M2.
.... but if you need ATIS for the European waterways it's not so good.

I have both the Standard Horizon HX300E and the ICOM m25..
Both are defiantly waterproof - I have used them both on dinghies and kayaks where we have gone in the water with no issues.
Not sure the Icom warrants the extra money as the SH is just as good.
I only payed the extra because the SH was out of stock at Force 4 and I wanted a second hand held to take on holiday to North Wales so SHMBO stopped worrying when then kids went out on the Kayak/Laser/Topper and went a bit far off shore.
I have also found a really good use for a HH when picking up the mooring using low power CH15 or 17 - internal ship coms. - saves a lot of shouting and misunderstood hand signals
even on a 26' boat!

I have a Standard Horizon HX300E bought for kayaking and I have to say that I'm impressed with the reliability. You can get it quite cheap online compared to ebay where the prices are much higher for some reason. I got mine for £99.95. Happy with my Cobra HH350. Waterproof and floats (I can confirm this!), M1 and M2, docking station with 12/240v leads and 6w high power.

FWIW my Icom M23 (non-DSC) has proven very reliable. It has been dropped and gone for a swim and it’s still happy.
On the strength of that I will go for an ICOM DSC one, logically the M-93, so I am thinking “it’s Christmas- and it needs to be!”

Do also consider the Standard Horizon HX870E. It has a bigger battery, 6W output power (vs 5W), nicer screen, and it's around fifty quid cheaper. I've had one for several years and it's very good.

Just bought an HX870E from Seamark Nunn for £199 instead of £269.
Brilliant radio - and the price includes a charging cradle, DC cable, AC adaptor, Li-ion battery pack, Battery Tray for standard batteries.
You can get a 'personal' MMSI number if you register the radio on a portable licence which is then not associated with a boat, but to you personally. DSC is then activated.
ATIS can be set up but it is linked to your boat and cannot be changed without software and a code from SH.
The radio also floats, has a strobe light etc and quite importantly, the audio output is loud and clear.
Whats not to like?

That was the last one that Seamark Nunn had in stock - that model is now discontinued, with a new model in the New Year...
“Don’t ask me how I know that...” - but I phoned Seamark Nunn this afternoon and they have now sold me an Icom M93D Euro for £256.94 including VAT, and the price includes a charging cradle, AC adaptor, Li-ion battery pack, with the 12volt charger.
It looks as if the technological shoot out continues.
Thinking about it, I’m spoiled for choice with Seamark Nunn, SYH chandlery and Foxes All nearby. Who needs the Internet!
