Hand held VHF question

Well, I have to say that this is a rather responsible way to go about things... if only everyone was to go to the same lengths.

A colleague of mine was telling me the other day of the kids in their inflatables in the harbour/bay. Apparently they are racing around with 5hp o/b in and out of the other vessels/swimmers without a care in the world. They are younger than your son, yet their parents didn't want to know. In the end the harbour master had to take action to stop it before someone was hurt.

I hope you find a compromise to your problem.

Thank you. He is absolutely not allowed to use the outboard motor unless an adult is aboard - his expeditions are sail and oar powered. It strikes me that since we do not allow children to drive motor cars or to ride motorbikes we should not let them drive powered boats. I recall that the RYA has a minimum age for its power boat handling courses. But, above all, he is learning seamanship by sailing and rowing. The 9ft clinker dinghy has two built in bouyancy tanks and two bouyancy bags as well - he has demonstated capsize recovery with it and it has an anchor.
