Hi all,

I remember reading in pbo or ym a device that can detect the fuel level in mild steel tanks. I can't for the life of me find the article, or anything in these forums or via google.

Does anyone know if such a thing exists or did I imagine in ?

Having suffered an empty tank due to an over reading gauge, I no longer rely upon the fuel gauges. Instead I use this connected via my low level fuel polishing connections. I can select either tank.

I utterly trust this ...

My fuel tank has a plastic tube on one side between fitting at the top and bottom of the tank. It is never wrong. These is also a wooden dip stick, again very accurate as it has been marked for ¼, ½, ¾ and full.

The letter in YM was mine. The device is a Truma gas level detector for larger gas bottles, but does not work on Camping Gaz size. I use it in the motorhome and took it on board to test it on my gas bottles there (unsuccessfully) but tried it on my stainless steel diesel tank, where it worked perfectly. I have not tried it on a mild steel tank but it did not work on a plastic tank for diesel or water. http://www.levelcheck.com/uk/

I bought mine on a special offer for a lot less than the advertised price. Google finds similar ones for half the price of the Truma.

The unit VyV posted is very interesting but there has been lots of discussions about Arduino and Raspberry PI pasted controllers and measuring instruments.

Heres one that measures distance that could be the base of a electronic dip stick the measures the level of the water of diesel in a tank. With some cleaver programming it could also calculate the volume of fuel/water in the tank if needed.

Brilliant and thanks for the help, it was the Truma detector. I have looked at the Tec Tanks ones but as I've got two tanks I wanted one devices that I can use for both.
