Marina have many positive aspects but not everybody enjoys the pounding of bass-enhanced music from moderately drunken neighbours, the patter of not-so-little feet on pontoons or the intrusive tinkling of medallions which competes with the rapping of unfettered halyards. Even less enjoyable are the bills.
The dear old Hamble provides an alternative mode of mooring for those who are not afraid to venture forth in dingies. But for how much longer? The harbour master has finally gone public with his plan to convert the river moorings into a series of marinas (see http://www.hants.gov.uk/decisions/decisions-docs/020621-revhma-R1.html). This has been an open secret and there has been a campaign of whispers, such as "Swinging moorings damage seabed" etc.. There will be public consultation so let us hope that there will be public debate and even public influence on the decision-making process.
