Why, can't they put up thier hanging baskets, either? We have right to be told!!!

On second thoughts hanging baskets would improve the look of most of the boats that rocket out there on a Sunday morning disturbing a man's quiet contemplation.

Welcome to Tony's nanny state where we must all be protected from evil and danger.

You may be concerned about increasing gun crime? ( becoming a regular occurence in Nottingham nowdays) but at least you wont be Bury'd (geddit?) by a falling hanging basket.

But if you run a legitimate business you are hounded by Health & Safety Exec, Fire Officers, as well as the Revenue and customs & excise as unpaid tax collectors and administrators. I get a quarterly phone from my local authority checking on the number of car parking places at my office so they can get their sums right for the workplace parking charges. I also get a regular form to be completed demanding ana analysis of the waste that goes in the dustbin.

Cockle picking gang masters however, seem to be able to break all sorts of legislation with apparent impunity with tragic consequences as we have seen. I cant believe that the sight of dozens of Chinese workers didn't raise some questions somewhere, but perhaps it isn't politically correct to question such things. Perhaps the local authority and police would rather chase motorists than tangle with the Triads. .

Pathetic.
Where will it end?

No, what will happen is that they will only be allowed to be hung either side of the spreaders. Along come motorboats with attendent huge wash - soil falls out of baskets - very rapid silting - Hamble has to be shut and turned into a nature reserve and bird sanctuary.
You can't fight progress !!

Comes back to Claymore's easy/hard boxes .. they enforce what they can easily eforce rather than what they ought to .. take motorists and speed cameras v dangerous drivers .. enough said .. but I know I'm paying a lot more tax (in % terms overall as well as absolute) for a lot less than I was 7 years ago

The untold story

It was what the council's parks department employees were growing in the hanging baskets that was the problem. Their excuse was that it was a new fangled seasickness cure.

Why not test the lamp posts by stringing up council members on them? If they break the decision was justified and they live... seems very fair to me.....

There is probably a string on this in the equivalent Italian publication, didn't they do a test on the strength of lamp posts back in '45 with young Benito Mussolini?

Re: As a professional basket hanger

To some of the countries better known companies. I'd be surprised if the towns hanging baskets hadn't previously been subject to a Risk Assessment. The brackets and chain hadn't been certified as to their suitability. If the implications of adding the baskets to the existing structures hadn't been taken into account and if the whole thing hadn't been installed and maintained by a proper person.

Of course if they want to get this all done thay should ring me up.

So what?

3000 UK residents die in car crashes every year, but they're not talking about banning cars.

1000 of us die from falling downstairs every year, but they're not making us all live in bungalows.

Re: So what?

Yet!!

Cars they will never ban because they generate so much income, but no doubt they will tax two storey dwellings to conserve life?
