Hamble Point Marina....

You're right FF, we had just renewed. We did think about negotiating a discount but felt we'd prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt and the time to get things sorted. Sounds soft on my part but I didn't want to kick them while they're down (I know that makes no financial sense whatsoever and we owe them no favours but still). If they make good on their promises then we're happy to stay and to recommend, if not...then we take our business elsewhere along with no recommendations from us to anyone looking for marina berths there. We will still make use of the freedom berthing for comparisons as suggested in the meantime.
P.S. I hope this thread hasn't come across as a 'lets kick MDL' or 'oh woe is me' coz that really wasn't/isn't my intention, I just felt, in HP's case, there were things worth highlighting.

as always, you come across as a decent sort making a valid case in the most unconfrontational way possible.. nothing wrong with complaining if the complaint is valid and done in an effective manner.. I've been in service management for most of my career and there's nothing worse than customers sitting on a gripe, telling the world behind your back how rubbish the service is and then finally blowing their top wondering why you've done nothing about it...

so, that said, when are you moving to Ocean Village?:D

Lisa, you seem far to nice to have a nasty rant, and what you posted was certainly not a nasty rant... you need to get a few lessons from DAKA for those! ;):D

Just remember how the costings work out if you move outside MDL.. you might not get much of that annual agreement back some way through the year...
TBH , presumably the paving and the loo block havent changed much since you renewed, surely, so you "accepted" the marina as was, or would have gone elsewhere anyway?
I do hope MDL wont be spending money at Hamble Point when obviously we are much more deserving at Hythe ;)

Awwww shucks guys....now pass me a bucket :p:o:p
Pssst I can rant...just ask Chris but that's just between us ok?!

here ya go:p

Howard,

When we were at Hythe there was a little general store, Salt restaurant and an Italian restaurant La Vista. Salt was revamped cica 2 years ago? (gjgm will know better), and it really needed it! But its Ok for a snack. The La Vista I have always found pretty good.... I assume its still there!!! I know the shop had closed last year.. don't know if it has reopened...

Again a bit of a thread drift but IMO I find hythe rather a sad place in that it is very 80's and in its hayday you can see it would have been great, we kept our last boat there and enjoyed the place, great views over Southampton Water. But IMHO its does really need an update! Toilets & Showers although very clean desperately need a rebuild, security is not good. Often found youths wandering around the pontoons as no gates and a lot of the pontoons you could just jump from the quay side onto, I reported a couple of times seeing youths climbing around boats they clearly should not have been on. Last year some 19yr old got in a fairly large Broom and started the engines and took it for a tour of the marina and hit a load of boats then rammed one of the bridges... then was found by police in the boat asleep... all a bit odd! Luckily it was not on free flow so he didn't get out. The MDL staff again were really nice, very helpful and they did always say they would never let boats out the lock if they didn't see the owner on board so in that respect ultimate security was good... Interesting to get an update from those still there..

Just some feedback.
You are right a few years ago there seemed plenty of the Hythe yoof loitering about, followed by a live filming of the Bill ! I think they must have bundled them all away to some offenders institution bcz all is quiet now.
Then a few residents got miffed about white van fishing man marching all over place in thigh deep mud having been digging for worms. MDL crack SWAT security team (well a one day close down of non MDL vehicles) seems to have stopped most of that too.
Now all has returned to peaceful calm.
The corner shop I suspect lost its resident customers to Waitrose, and wasnt going to survive on my £1 fresh baguette each Sunday. Not sure the story with the pub/bar. It became the local pre-night club hang out for the 20-30 year old set for a while, and then I think went under due to some internal fraud. (not sure on this story TBH). Actually that has now been converted to a hotel- the Boathouse, I think.
The Italian is still there, and very popular. Dont use it much myself.
B basin loo block has been "tidied" rather than revamped. Hell, we even have radiators ! I think the problem is that much of the marina is residential-there are probably less than 10 of us using the toilet block, so I doubt we will see £100k revamp- though you could wonder which comes first.. more clients or a revamp. And it is still miles better than the portacabin fiasco at Ocean Village.
We like it bcz it is quiet, we get the evening sun, we dont have to crawl up and down the Hamble;easy by car to Lymington (we always seem to be there!);pretty ok by car from London.
It misses the choice of pubs and ambience of Lymington and Port Hamble, but you can walk to the shops.
And most of the time, it is simply where I park the boat.
As someone once said to me, if you berth in your favourite place, where are you going to go ;)
