You really need to pull yer finger out! Dunno whats going on but you're seriously lagging behind other marinas in the upkeep stakes. The paving by the lift out is coming up and is now quite treacherous, especially after dark...someones gonna come a cropper and soon!; the shower blocks need updating (take a look at E. Cowes to see how it should be done) and to top it off...both washing machines are bust. Given this is the most expensive marina in the Solent, don't we deserve just a bit better??
Your saving grace right now is the staff there are brilliant!!
Would have posted this somewhere else but there's not a 'moan about marinas' forum.

got to say Lisa, don't want to sound rude, but I really am not sure the appeal of keeping your boat at HP... with the MDL freedom berthing why don't you try moving you boat to either Port Hamble or Mercury for a week or two to see what you think... I would just add the staff at Mercury are just brilliant, the only appeal to HP I can see is easy access to the Solent, but at the end of the day the 10 minute trip up the river just gives you time to get the fenders out and warps ready.... Just my honest opinion... ( I do always lift out at HP so am familiar with it and that is half the trouble, the place a boat yard first and a marina second IMHO...)

I lifted my Phantom out last year at Hamble Point which in itself was no problem. Boat was loaded onto that hydraulic/motorised trolley thing to haul it off to block off. Got halfway there and one wheel of the trolley thingy disappeared into a massive pothole. Made a god awful noise as the trolley scraped across the ground and the boat crash landed onto the trolley. The operator was completely oblivious to the event and just did a bit of jigging about to get the wheel out of the hole and carried on. Seemed like a normal event to him!
So, not only are the bogs rubbish but the hard standing for boats is full of holes too.

I think that's a blinding idea tbh so we will do that for sure. I love where we are, the berth we have, the people and staff etc and I really would hate to leave but on the way home Chris and I were just saying the reason we agree to pay what we do each year is because of the facilities available but if they are going to be allowed to decline then at least the berthing costs should reflect that. That said, I'm pleased The Ketch has raised its game.

great, at the end of the day it may make you move, or it may make you appreciate where you are... but whichever it won't cost a bean...

...but i bet you move...;):)

Lisa, why not bypass the marina office and voice your concerns at MDL's head office on the same site? On the Thames, MDL's dockmasters also do the maintenance unless it's major works.

I've e-mailed them my concerns tonight. Don't expect much response tho but you never know. It would be a shame if they ignore the warning signs.

The MD of MDL has been known in the past to take action in response to postings on here. I would not be at all surprised if it came up in his office meetings this morning. So whilst with a lot of companies I would be sceptical about a response, with MDL I would expect it to be taken seriously.

Very true,

Some of the people at the very top of MDL started at the very bottom and do actually understand what is required when running a marina. I guess in the mist of senior management, lots of things are sheltered from them which i would assume they would rather know about!

No harm in sending them an e mail of better still, picking up the phone and talking to them.

will have to try the Ketch sometime soon, its been long overdue a makeover!!

nice!!

its ok for a sandwhich and a pint but not sure anyone would call it a resturant based on the past performance. i am happy to give it a try on the basis its been done up. i have always found the staff friendly there so thats a good start, give it a clean up and make sure the food is ok and its good enough for me!

Update

To my surprise the guy in charge, Neil, called me first thing this morning in response to my e-mail so all credit to them for that at least. I listed my concerns and highlighted the urgency of immediate repairs to the roadway by the lift out. This guy has been taken on in the last two months apparently to address the issues at Hamble Point. He assured me there are plans to invest heavily in bringing Hamble Point back up to standard. He agreed with all the concerns raised particularly the urgency of the paving. He also said he would be circulating investment and update plans (words to that effect) to annual berth holders which I think is a good start at least.
Obviously significant upgrades take time but it's good to know the issues are in the pipeline to be addressed. Now let's just wait and see.
Regarding the Ketch...give it a go, especially the sunday carvery. Certainly a pleasant place to sit and have a drink now.

Lisa,
Fair play! he's done the best he can for now, sort of thing I would expect from MDL. But as you say these plans take time. So either you sit and waiting for a couple of years to see how the improvements progress or move and go back when they are done. Rest assured no MDL marina is going to be full within 2 years...

Trouble is Steve, as a rule MDL DO NOT DO DEALS.....(hhmmmm...? ) especially since Lisa would have by now renewed her berthing agreement. So MDL will not be giving her a discount in retrospect... they will be very nice to her and happily arrange a FOC move to Port Hamble or Mercury.... Time for negotiation is before you renew agreements... (as I happened to find out to my cost this year...:()
