I have just been to the local Chandlers to buy an automatic Fire Extinguisher, I was shown one off the shelf "Firemaster Halon " manufactured 2000 exp. 2005.
The proprietor says it is alright in a pleasure boat.
Any one know if this is legal or not ?

This is Halon not a Halon replcement.

Hmmm... if he's telling the truth then there will be a lot of unhappy people at my Club as they have changed over due to Halon being illegal!

I thought it was now illegal to have Halon on board any boat, pleasure or not.

So you won't suffocate when the co2 extinguisher goes off?
Regardless, IMHO halon is still the best for fighing fires in an engine room. What pollutes more, a halon extinguisher putting the fire out, or the burning boat? Yet another example of political correctness and bureaucracy gone mad.

"its illigal the reason being that anyone down below with it when it goes off will suffocate and it make big holes in the ozone"

Rather that than be burnt to death!!

We replaced our Halon with a solution called Fire Pro, developed by the Russians Space Program as a method of turning off a rocket on the pad after that moment 5 - 4 - 3 ingnition - if it all started to go pear shaped.

Available in canister or solid form (which I have fitted over the bowthruster and Eberspatcher) a disk the size of a 10p suffed out a pint of burning petrol in a blink of the eye.

Its non toxic and ozone friendly for more info see www.marinefiresafty.co.uk

My boat is for sale, I am looking for cheap and legal, your mention of 10p certainly caught my attention.
