An update. Yesterday, Halifax Card authorisations were down (how long? I don't know) around lunch-time. More embarrassment at the check-out.

RE: FRAUD
The fraud prevention is NOT protecting you, the consumer, it is protecting the Halifax's inordinate profits (along with the other CC companys). We had a card stolen, and all the transactions made by the thief were wiped off our slate. That is in their terms and conditions.

In my case, I was ordering boaty stuff on-line, for delivery to my card's statement address. Difficult to see why that could possibly look fraudulent? The company was one I had ordered from (similar sums) a number of times before.

I addressed a question to the Halifax Company Secretary (they have umpteen directors listed, but no MD or CM)
Mr H F Baines, Trinity Road, Halifax, W Yorks, HX1 2RG.

My question was: how many accounts are stopped per day, by the fraud dept applying their 'unusual transactions' criteria?

You are not alone. Halifax seem very flaky at the minute. I've had a few odd incidents with them over the past month or so.

I have a Visa Coop card and a MBNA master card. In the UK i have never had a transaction queired by any on them, however the Visa card NEVER will work abroad - despite phoning etc and giving them my mobile number. The MBNA card always works abroad and I never have to contact them before I go (Where talking about France and Spain here)

So I have binned the coop card - and use the MBNA now as they deserve the business - and the others don't!
