I'm not familiar with Halfpenny Pier, how busy is it likely to be Friday night?
I imagine it may well be utterly mobbed - is that likely?
If it is too busy can one anchor out of the channel near the trots to the E of it? I fear that may be foul ground though?
We'd like to get ashore in the dinghy for a beer or two!

If you call the dock master now he will reserve you a spot.

Or you could go into shotley and catch the ferry....but I don’t know how late he runs..

I can’t see anchoring as a good idea...

No bookings taken at Halpenny pier; it's first come, first served although he will advise you where best to tie up when you are on the approach. Having now motored past it looks very exposed if the wind is in the NW.

Well , he was taking bookings by phone when we visited a couple of weeks ago... I know this cause he took a booking for a inside spot as we were approaching and tieing up to the spot he had just taken a booking for... which caused a certain amount of consternation all around, a call back to the person making the reservation and a shift for them to the outside, which the Hm then marked out with signs.... followed later in the evening by said yachts skipper grumbling about being let down as he hadn’t got the best inside spot... ( which we got...)....

I'm only reporting what the HM said to me on the phone !

:encouragement: Maybe after our visit he stopped doing it! It did seem like a bit of a PITA... :D

Or he just does it for bigger boats... anyways we did end up getting squished anyways...

If you can get the inside your good, but as you say, outside in a breeze is un comfortable...

Outside can be very uncomfortable if any North in the wind, and lumpy in a calm due to wash from passing traffic. Inside is much better but AFAIK it has always been first come first served.

What always annoys me about Halfpenny quay is that often a boat arrives and parks in the centre of the pontoon - with not usually enough room for a small boat at each end - if only they went to one end and then there would be room for another boat. (Not the only place this happens though).

And/or uses all the cleat wrapping a mooring rope round and round!

Nearing LW trying to turn round into the stream to use the inside pontoon can be tight.

Went to HP Pier today with me and a friend in Ribs. Harbour master is very pleasant and will I am sure do his best. There is not a huge amount of space however. Inside I would say 7 - 8 30 footers with about 4-5 on the outside.

It seem sail boats get some sort of priority which is interesting
